Hey guys and girls! I've been a little quiet lately. Only managed to make it out 3 or 4 times with my leg still giving me trouble. Big Ugly fishing has been slow. It's either too rough to kayak or too calm for a nice bite. It will pick up more next month.
I was able to find some of the new Live Target shrimps at Roys. The weather was nice and water was calm so I linked up with Luke to chase some cold water fish.
It was pretty chilly in the morning. Luckily Luke had that towel to keep him warm haha. The sunrise was pretty killer.

It was pretty slow. We covered a lot of ground. Around 9 the sun was up and I found plenty of drum and a few reds on the flats. Managed to trick a few of them. The keeper trout were tough to find though. I made my way to some channels and pulled a few out working low and slow.

The shrimp worked really well. It is weighted and sinks slow. There is a internal rattle which is nice. They work great especially with live shrimp being hard to find.
I Made a trip out saturday night with Ben, Tod, and Glenn. We were trying to find some big uglies. Checked on a a few deeper water spots and came along some dead snook carcasses. Nothing was really biting so we moved across the flat and towards the channel.
Along the way I managed to knock out a fish that was a goal for the year! My first Texas Snook!

I was pretty pumped! The rest of the night was a bust though. Glenn managed a drum but they were spread thin on the flat.
Sunday morning Tod and I went in search of some deeper water to see what was holding. Fishing a DOA Airhead in Arkansas glow in 3' of water with dead grass bottom. Weightless and weedless worked sloowww. I had one take all day and it was a bruiser redfish. I gave it a 5 second count after the thump. The fish never even moved off so they must have been cold just sitting there. This sucker went 27" 9lbs.

Ran into Oil Field Trash and TommyT at the boat ramp. Great meeting y'all. Never saw if you caught them Tommy! Where is the report, amigo?
Last night I woke up at 3AM and couldn't go back to sleep. Figured my time would be better spent fishing. Loaded up the truck and started my trek down to Baffin. First time back in almost a year.
After a 3 mile paddle I got to my spot and set out lines for drum while I waited for the sun to come up. In 30 minutes I had a limit of the little buggers. Around 7 I started targeting mud/shell with swimbaits. Ran off a few small trout so I bumped up the size to a 5" swimbait. Even then the 15"-16" trout were all over it. Wound up with a dozen little guys.
The wind picked up and the front was coming through so I spent the last hour looking for drum. In that hour I managed 17 Blackdrum from 15"-19".

I took 3 rods but only needed one. It was impossible to handle 2 with the way they were biting. Doubles kept happening.

All in all its been a great few days of fishing even if it was slow. Ill be in Dallas until the 22nd so no more laguna reports until the end of the month. I will be fishing the Capital City Tourny on Lake lewisville so there may be a freshwater report hehe.
Till next time
Life is good!
