Really enjoyed the video. I have never fished for the Bluegill with a spoon. I usually use live worms however on certain occasions I use the Berkley Power Worms or the the Gulp Alive products. Thanks for sharing.

I like the challenge of tricking fish with artificial baits but live worms or crickets are by far the most effective bait for these fish... I keep striking out with the 'gills and hybrid sunfish at my Community Fishin' Hole so I am hoping this spoon technique allows me to find some fish!

It looks like he was getting great results. Keep in mind he was fishing in 28 feet of water. I don't know how deep your community fishing hole is. Hopefully that technique will work in more shallow water. You might want to also try small plastic grubs or small spinner baits.

Thanks for the info....Yeah allegedly the Community Fishing Hole I frequent is an average of 25 ft deep and in some parts as deep as 40...The only issue is that there are weeds growing on the bottom so I am sure I will hang up a lot if I do this technique...

Wow some pond you got out there alan , I'm going to have to show this to my nephew . His lure of choice is the Zoom Brush Hog " tiny" in watermelon green , he kills them on that lure . When he is feeling adventures he tosses out his rebel crickethopper and nails them on top.

Wow a baby brush hog! Cool that is awesome!! I need to try that. It isn't my pond it is Tom Bass III in Pearland just south of Houston. I refer to it as mine simply because that is where I fish the most often. It is a nice large pond and holds some nice fish but they are extremely finicky due to the amount of pressure they receive. Every time I try to figure them out they throw me a curve ball

After watching the video , I realized I has that article and have two modified spoons like that. We are bank fishers and the creeks we fish just has too much cover for us to use that technique .The great thing about the brush hog is it has a tiny bullet weight on the nose for casting and the hook is Texas rigged so can be fished in heavy cover.

Nice...must be some big ones to eat that lure...may I ask a few questions: how big a bullet weight and what size hook? Any colors prevail more than others?

I read that article while I was still in Germay. I had not been able to utilize the technique till we got to CO. When I was in Houston, I was not able to get to Tom Bass, but it is a place where I can see that technique working. I was on the north side and was mostly fishing Spring Creek and Hermann Park. I bet that would be a killer in Raven, too. I've only fished it two or three times, but it seems to be a great technique around submergant weeds and veg in deep water. The only other time it's been good for me was on a deep, weed hump. Seems like it would be killer on any hump in fairly deep water. I retrieved it as close to the bottom as possible. The other retrieve I liked was to slip thru the pockets of sparser weed clumps.
I really like Johnson spoons so I was glad to see they have 1/16th oz Silver Minnows an Sprites now. I was using a Daredevel with a tube as a trailer. I have some 1/16th Silver Minnows but have not found any 1/16th Sprites in stores yet. I have few things in mind to try this season that will tweak this technique into a great deep and mid depth summer staple.

Lake raven is a place I want to try...seems like I could do well from shore there...I will be throwing the kastmasters next time I go to tom bass ...going to have to find the sweet spot between catching the weeds and staying in the strike zone

Cool video. Love that Gill action. I have a couple of spots that spoons should do well in. Will give em a try this spring.
