Since the downscan and sidescan capabilities have come out it appears more fishermen are leaving the shallows to fish deeper, but most tournaments on tv the fishermen are fishing close to the banks.

1. Do you now have confidence to fish deeper? If so how much deeper?

2. What is your favorite type of structure to fish and what depth ranges?

Just curious since purchasing a HDS10 with Side Imaging.

I grew up fishing Texas lakes...usually no deeper than 10-15ft...now that I live in East Tennessee, I fish in water up to 60ft..and prefer it now...the weather doesn't seem to affect the deeper fish as much as the shallow fish...type of structure is ledge fishing....

fishing deep is just the same as fishing shallow. it just takes your lure longer to get to the bottom. as for the need to fish deep, that is dependent on your particular lake, and time of year. true, there are many times that most of the bass are behind you, but still may not be all that deep. the key to finding bass on any lake is number one to understand the seasonal patterns, and two, knowing the forage base of the lake you are fishing. bass are always going to be around a food source. the new electronics that are available now can cut down the searching time to locate bass. the trick is still how to get them to bite.

Thanks guys for your info. I never fish deeper than 20' for black bass but with the new sidescan it appears the bass are deeper than I thought. Looking at some of the images posted a person could expect to catch some bass as deep as 40'.

Learning how to rig a drop shot. Does a bass hit this rig hard or simply feel heavy?
