Well you can bet that it won't be full for too much longer if they continue the periodic releases of water like I am afraid they are going to. I could give two sh!ts about the paddlefish and it's survival. Like Whatley said, I don't see the paddlefish stimulating the local economy in the least. In fact, I think if I caught one, I may just throw the SOB on the bank just to spite the treehuggers that are trying to save it!

And before you untangle yourself from around your tree to jump on me for that comment, it was a friggin joke. I wouldn't throw a paddlefish on the bank just to kill it, I would simply leave it on the concrete at the end of the boat ramp. Sheesh!

In Okie they can legally do it and keep one. In LA you must release upon snagging.

Snagging in Texas is illegal

this is a freaking joke I am so sick and tired of all the BS and polictics, everytime our lakes fill up or start too they find a excuse to drop the lake again

Didnt want to stir the pot, but with all of the "treehugger" comments....I couldnt resist. Before I begin let me say that I am a conservationist; NOT a tree hugger...and those that know me KNOW.

I love to hunt, fish, camp....etc. I believe I am safe by saying that most of the people on the TFF are comitted to bolstering our fisheries. That being said, why are some so quick to complain about an attempt to revitalize a species in danger of becoming "endangered"?

Dont most of us practice catch and release? Arent most concerned about fish care? I cant pick and choose a specific species to conserve and turn a blind eye to another in danger.

After re-reading the article above, it is clear that the COE stopped the releases due to the recent droughts. They are only plannin on releasing water that is in the flood pool (above 228.5'). I love to fish LOP, and have been let down the past few years at the low water level; but...if what the COE says is true, & the effort truly is to revitalize the habitat of the Paddlefish, then I cant complain...it was here long before the LMB and me.

I agree with ChristianAngler. They are only releasing when it is above pool, and not releasing during drought conditions. As long as they stick to that methodology, it should not have a big impact to the fish population on the Pines. I know everyone hates the government, but this sounds like a sensible program.

What would Gary Dollahon do if he were here today?

This is not true, they did release during drought conditions and will continue to do so. And as for the tree huggers this is a true statement also. Once again what has this fish done for anybody. I'm all about saving animals that are low in numbers, but not at the expense of human beings. You can't keep one if you catch it, yet it is worth depriving people of a lake and water. The fish won't survive without constant flow and that is not possible as long as there are dams on the big cypress river, so we might as well just blow the dams and by all means save this fish!

Dams are #1 cause of their problem(paddlefish).

They can't swim over that dang wall! smile
