Looking at buying a new boat (new to me). Dealership says the compression results on the motor were 100-105 on each cylinder. I do not know the hours. Boat is a 2001 ZX250 skeeter with above mentioned motor. Just wanted some guidance on what compression numbers like that mean. I do not have much boat buying experience.

Thanks for any guidance.

if its just an opinion you want, I'll say the numbers are close enough together to be OK.. but I don't know if 100/105 is a good number for that motor..what did the dealership say, or don't you trust them...

i would think the the compression should be closer to 125 ish

they are within 10% of each other which is a good thing. but, i would think that motor aint far
from needing a re ring and cylinder hone job.

course it depends on the gauge that was used too. most gauges don't read the same.

Very few dealers/mechanics have their gages calibrated annually(which they should).

Also depends if they did the compression test with a cold motor or a warmed up motor. ( warm is the right way )

Went and took a test drive this weekend. Motor fired right up and seemed very strong. dealership said that the test was done cold. Which may lead to the lower numbers??? Like I said boat ran like a banshee just was not as clean overall as what I was looking for. Thanks for the responses.

Any other things I should be requesting when looking at used boats? I know to look for hours but many of the boats in my price range are not able to display hours. Just looking for some advice when shopping around.

thanks,
