Commons Sense says I should stay home and rest and wait for warmer weather, but well you know the rest smile Plus a co-worker wants to go and is willing to brave the weather, so he twisted my arm smile

Part of me thinks I need to try somewhere else, but that doesn't make sense since last time I saw guides catch fish by me .. but I am thinking of going to Cedar Bayou instead of Highport.

I am also wondering if maybe I should buy some live bait .. I hate todo it, but I need to catch a fish smile ..

DO you guys think buying some Shiners will give me a better chance this time of year ?

Funny .. at least the beer won't get cold tomorrow , I can save weight and not have to pack any ice in the cooler smile

The forecast now has it a bit cooler in the morning, cloudy most of the day and the wind isn't dying down and shifting to the north until 10pm .. this morning it had it shifting 3 to 4pm ish and the sun coming out after lunch.

But already commited to going, going to stick to Highport & Mill Creek to stay protected until we see what the wind does after lunch.

Well, we didn't get any fish, but I had a good time with a buddy. We may not get alot of time together as he is changing jobs in a few months, so it was good guy time on the water. Water was 38 degrees, vs 41 last weekend.

The biggest issue we had was my carb on the outboard kept flooding out the motor. Never got it to run right, so we went out on the trolling motor and only fished the islands and river channal by Highport. As before marked some large balls of bait but found no stripers in with them.

Rob, if it gets much colder you may be able to "walk" to the islands!....on ice..That's assuming it freezes before they drain it bolt

Yeah it was a bit chilly Sat .. but It looks like I maybe grounded until I can get my carb fixed. I am thinking it may need expert help this time. I suspect the float or needle valve is not closing, it never closed and just floods the engine with fuel.

Can you pull it out and check for debris? That's what I'd do before I spent money on it. open it up and clean with good carb cleaner.

I didn't take the carb off, but shot cleaner into every orifice I could find. I am not sure I have the skills or desire to try and take it off, it looks easy enough but never done it.

I have had problems getting it started when cold, I figured out last week the problem was the primer bulb on the motor .. not the fuel tank .. had rotted out. It is just a plastic bubble that blows air into the carb. It was easy enough of replace, but the old plastic had disintegrated into tiny pieces. I am pretty sure that something got into the bowl and now it won't shut off the fuel.

So much fuel got feed into the cylinders, you could not pull the starter rope. I had to take the plugs out and pull it over and over as it shot a stream of fuel out the plug sockets. Also, When I prime the fuel bulb on the gas tank, fuel leaks from the carb. The bulb never gets firm like it did before, it just keeps pumping fuel into the carb and leaking and flooding the cylinders.

I drained all the fuel and got the motor to start and run without the gas tank connected, it would run a minute just on the fuel in the carb bowl. Once it died, I only put a drop of fuel into it, got it started without the external fuel tank connected, but the second I hooked the fuel tank line back up it would flood and die.

So I am guessing that some peice of plastic from the old primer bulb got into the carb bowl, and is preventing the float and needle valve from seating. If the float could seat, it would shut off the fuel going into the carb, and not flood. So it is going to need to be taken apart.

I can't get the carb off , or at least not easily and I am not sure if I did, that I would get it back together without making it worse smile
