Omg! I've been cracking my head on building the funnels for round perch traps. I searched this site and all over the internet. Even found a post I placed back in 2005 asking for help. Got some but it was [censored]. I finally stopped thinking about it as a fish trap and more like a funnel. The answer is easy. Create a circle in wire about 25% larger than the diameter of your desired round trap. Cut out a pie piece about 1/5 of the circle. When you wrap the circle up it will form the perfect funnel. You can figure it out from there. Dammit I'm ready to soak a hand sized perch!

Here is one I made several years ago I made 2 of them like you have. I found the pattern from you-tube by searching for How to make a Cloverleaf perch trap. Time consuming but very good traps!

I have made several myself. Just keep in mind that if you are catching hand size perch in your trap, then they aren't legal. The largest legal opening is 1" x 3".

Perch traps are a pain to build. I can't imagine putting one in public water to be stolen. Size of opening doesn't matter in private ponds. Nice trap. I used to use that design but for some reason the round ones work better in the ponds I trap.

Thanks Jarett The cost and time to make and buy would make them expensive to buy and resale! Here's the link and you could make and sell, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52qMDXo1dhg

I have built several of these and gave them to the Grandkids and nephews. What a way to get them into fishing. I haven't seen a kid yet that didn't like to check a perch trap. Great gifts for young kids with access to water. I cut two holes in each V 1" X 3" one high and one low. Works great.

The traps were $40 so I bought $100 worth of material and made 10 traps. I kept 5 and sold the rest to make a little extra money. They are a pain to build and I hope to not have to make anymore. That being said, 2 have already been stolen from public lakes.

The fish net company has some nice ones for sale on their site. They run around $40-$45. I wanted round traps not cloverleaf so I built 2 this weekend. Need 4 more.

I heard there was a new law out now that prohibits transportation of bait from one body of water to another. Anybody hear this or care to elaborate?
