Random thought, have any of you used the GoPro iPhone app and tied the camera to a pole or weighted rope to look down and confirm what you're seeing on your fishfinders? Seems like a cool way to be sure of what you're marking in real time.
It would probably just be something to do when you're starting off but it would be great for building confidence.

Most waters out here don't have the clarity to see much I would imagine. I have been thinking about using the video feed on my HDS to mount some sort of camera but like I said I doubt it would be worth it...

wifi doesn't work underwater so you won't get anything from a GoPro that's submerged very deep.
The video connection on your fish finder is to get video out of the unit, not into it for display. At least that is true of the hummingbird units.

that would be cool but unfortunatly it is true wifi would be snuffed out by the water.
depending on the head unit you have the video feed may be used for external cameras to display on your unit. with raymarine it is possible to display a vodeo feed on the screen to monitor the back deck. usually used on the bigger sport fishing boats. however i dont see why an under water camera would not be able to be connected to a unit like that so you could display a live video feed with a gps and fish finder return. putting $3 k worth of electronics on a kayak though is up to the fisherman. if you got the money rock it!
the gopros can go under water so depending on clarity i would imagine you could mount it to an extendable pole and run it down to what ever you mark then view the footage just to see what was actually down there. just depends on the water clarity. Marine creek is pretty clear but lake worth would be a challange.
