Nice job Louis! My grandmother believed in the cow wive's tale. I also note what they are doing when fishing and IMO it is more correct than wrong. It never changes when I fish but just wierd how it works out.

It never changes when I fish but just wierd how it works out. My Grandpa taught to notice how the cows were behaving and it has stuck with me. He also said it was good luck if we saw a squirrel on the way to the fishing hole....

Seriously thinking about fishing Martin this weekend. Would drive up Friday night and stay at SP and fish Sat & Sun. Any others fishing Martin this weekend?

I think my bird feeder is more accurate than the cows. Unreal how they all come at the same time, long stretches of no birds at all, then the place is covered with several species coming in from every direction. Their feeding times change over the course of a few days. Sometimes its only a few birds several times a day. I never figured it out with the bass bite but sure get excited when I leave home and they are there.

Good catching Louis!!! I would stick with the warm water lakes for a couple weeks if I had the option. Catching is more fun than fishing when it's cold Yes..I agree with Michael. This time of year there is always a lot of speculation about prespawners in cold water and how they "should" be up shallow because that's what they do in February etc... But these metro lakes are gonna be cold for a while... I mean water in the 30s in the mornings... Some guides will find a few big ones here and there but it's not gonna 'heat up' until it, well, actually heats up. Two or three pics of some giants does not mean that it has "turned on"... If I were close to a hot water lake I'd be fishing it for a few more weeks over this 30s snowmelt water we'll have for a while...

Why do all the good warm water lakes have to be almost 3 hours from my house!? HEck Fairfield was only about 2 hours away and it still cost me about $40 in fuel and state parks fee's. Thank goodness I have a fuel efficient car although with the yak on top it doesnt get nearly as good as it does with out it. I was averaging 25-26mpg going to Fairfield and I was driving pretty slow.

Not to get too far off the post of Louis's fine day, but February has historically been my best month for big fish. I enjoy fishing in Feb because the crowds aren't as bad and larger fish are in more predictable spots. I was looking through some Polaroids (yeah those) that my dad kept from the 80's and very early 90's a couple months ago and was reminded of how many fish over 7 lbs we caught from Fork in Feb. A few were in January too but Feb and early March seemed to be the months that stood out year after year. The reason I mention this is to point out that this ain't our typical winter here in north Texas . We usually have water temps creeping on up into the 50's by now, but that's just not the case this year. I think our best fishing is gonna be a few weeks later than normal. That doesn't mean you can't go catch a giant, but I'm not convinced the big mamas are in the places I've caught them this time of year yet. Or they aren't biting. Or maybe I can't catch em anymore. I took another skunk at Joe pool yesterday and that just wasn't happening to me this time of year, in years past. I'm about ready to start driving to one of the power plant lakes just to stretch my line. I like fishing as much as the next guy but a little catching mixed in wouldn't hurt my morale. So give em h-ll Louis and count your blessings you lucky dog!!!
