Took my 10 year old stepson on his first crappie hunt this morning on benbrook. We launched out of Mustang about 730 and got rid of my neighbors Xmas tree for him. Then we fished mostly up in the Richardson Slough and found nada. Coming out of there, hit what i thought was the main lake and found a stump in 40 foot of water. Luckily i hadn't hit the throttle real good yet but it sure woke us up. Rest of the day was giving boat rides to the daughters and their friends and some fishing around the closed Rocky Creek points. Couldn't find em but we aren't giving up. Will be out again soon.

I got a few fiberglass patches on the bottom of mine from the brook.

I know exactly where you are talkimg about with stumnps in 40 foot water. I lost a prop there several years ago and had to get back to my trailer at Rocky Creek on troling motor with a 10 mph head wind. ended up having to switch to the starter battery and still barely made it. It took me 3.5 hours

Yeah the man at the guard shack said they need to stick a buoy on it as he knew where i was talking about too. Hopefully next trip out with my new SI i'll be able to find the brushpiles that the corps supposedly sunk out there in the last few years. I got one xmas tree down and have access to some cedar so i plan to put at least 1 more in somewhere.

Hmmm, I wonder if it was the same stump that Ketchn found last year??? Of course, he found it at a higher rate of speed...and had the damage to show for his efforts...and a few sore bones, as well.

Happy to see you took your kids out...I usually take mine out when the weather is nice, carry lots of goodies to eat (i.e.., candy, sodas, etc.) in case the fish aren't biting...we can at least have a little snack and good conversation....

That sounds like my son coach...my daughter on the other hand will fish all day, as long as I am listening to her thoughts and ideas...or if she is hammering me on the catching side...Furthermore, like Ketchn, she gets REAL quiet when I am hammering her...I wonder what would happen if I got them in the boat at the same time??? rolfmao noidea

That lake is full of some, at one point, giant oaks. This time of year I've done fare on the dam and just south if the water outlet tower bouys...there is a flat on top of the drop off I'm 25-30' fow? Don't quote me on depth but I think that's right at full pool, also there is another ledge toward the NW side of the spillway in 15' fow that I've done great on. Keep it up! You'll getem

Anytime! I was looking back through all your previous posts and seems you have a pretty good idea of what your doing...holler at me when you come this way! Love to pick your mind. And once more would like to ride along with you on Palestine. Always wanted to try that lake!

Palestine is one of the lakes I want to hit this year.
