I used to buy every CRULD in shadtreuse I could find. Those lures caught white bass so well that I usually wore the finish off one in a day of fishing, but I guess they discontinued them so now I'm down to my last one. Now every Academy I go to either has about 1 color in stock thats baby bass, or they just don't have any at all. Sexy Shad just isn't the same! haha

Just my thought. Maybe due to their high prices on the tackle, the tackle sales are way down and as stated already they can make more profit on apparel. In order to get a competitive price from them you have to wait for a sale and even then most of the time the price isn't that great. Ron

The one off 820 in North Richlandhills is slowly phasing out fishing from what I can see. They don't restock some of the lures I like when they're out. Fishing used to be big but now some isles are completely emptied and replaced with non fishing related items. I now go to the one off N. Tarrant Pkwy as have more fishing gears.

I work at academy and have been there for 2 years, yes we are not carrying as much as we use to carry. But it is also a "seasonal thing" so thus rod racks empty and isles empty. We will have a new plannorgram in about a month and you'll see more baits and rods and everything else. I've been trying to get sponsorship from them for a year or more and no success. They need to sponsor more events or their valued customers are gonna go else where. I only shop there cause of discount.

Academy is a has been store for fishing tackle. San Antonio has been deemed not a salt water market. 2 summers ago when I went in to gear up for off shore they had redone the shelves and eliminated the saltwater offshore gear. When I complained I did receive a few phone calls. one from a customer service rep who said I could buy online or stop at a store in corpus. I explained that Academy had made its name by carrying a large selection of fishing tackle and that online from academy would not be an option as I would then buy from tackle warehouse or direct from the manufacturer. as far as stopping at a store in Corpus with a fully loaded and rigged boat ready to fish would be foolish as I would probably not have anything left in the boat. The regional manager called me and explained they were between planograms and I said yea right since January. I explained that if I couldn't buy the tackle and supplies I use than why would I shop for my Columbia fishing clothes there. Academy is the new Oshmans. I see them out of outdoor sports soon all together. Maybe not weapons but the hunting clothing selection was not what it was in the past and they have clearance what was left and are sold out. what happened to spring turkey season. Oh they must not know about that in New York City.

They have a lot of shoes. j/k I do buy my DFI oil from them because of their price. However, if there were someone who sold it in bulk in our area I would probably buy from them instead.
At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

Dropped by the Academy off Brody in Austin. All bait and tackle shelves were very well stocked -- better than they've been for a few months.

And now a message from our sponsors....

it seems all the empty stores are the big city. victoria, portland, and corpus stores are full of fishing gear. maybe the stores are smarter than the city folks. city wants clothes and shoes, the country wants fishing and hunting.
REDNECK, and proud of it.

I shop often at the academy stores in Beaumont and Lufkin and have no complaints. Beaumont is great for saltwater and Lufkin for fresh. I can get 80% of my tackle from there at a bargain price. Any special stuff I go to one of our local tackle stores. Havnt noticed a big decline in stock in either place.

I've always been a big fan of Academy's H20 line, specifically their cranks and lipless cranks. But over the last couple of years, they've been phasing out many of their good color choices (ones that could produce!). And not only that, now it seems they don't even offer their 1/4 oz (might have been 3/8 oz) lipless cranks!
Very disappointed to see this and find myself going to Academy less and less these days. Sad.

I like several of the lures in their H20 line. Due to my location I don't even get within 200 miles of an Academy store anymore but have been getting them through their internet site with no problems. When I combine these lures with various workhorse reliable plastics that are often on sale and $39 free shipping I can make out real well with each order.
