There are no browns in the Guadalupe. Haven't been for years.

Actually - The Texas Parks and Wildlife Stocks around 15,000 lbs of catchable size rainbow and brown trout every year (Nov - March). And the photos are of Rainbow Trout - Looks like a brown but its a rainbow. Even a report from 2013 says Rainbow mostly but a few brown too. Hope that helps!

So, If you would like to fish let us know! Our guide has over 17 years of experience fishing the Guadalupe.

I'm not seeing any resemblance of a brown trout in your pics.

Actually, you're mistaken. Brown trout haven't been stocked in the Guad for a very long time, and there's no brown trout being stocked in the river at current. If "your guide" has "over 17 years of experience" he should know that. The regulations remain on the river regarding browns just in case one happens to find its way in.

If anyone would know if there's browns, Mick would. He's been fishing this river more than most of us combined.

Yep, last time I think any were stocked was 2004. GRTU stocked some really big ones that year. Not sure about what TPWD has stocked but I always heard they stopped stocking browns too. According to my fishing log in Feb 2005, I caught 2 18 inchers and a 19 incher one day in the slack water along edges on white woolies. I also recorded that the flow was a steady 550cfs (hence them being in the slack water) and the water temp was 52deg well below the dam. Those were the days. The only others I ever caught were on dries around the same time but they were much smaller.

But yeah, at any rate, those fish really don't look like browns to me.

Seeing those trout on a stringer is such a shame. GRTU is doing everything they can to make the Guad a sustainable trout fishery and that's 5 less that can help.

It is a shame. I wish everyone was on the same page. Just think if there was no GRTU. Eat chicken.

Those small fish can reach maturity if you let them. Looks like he's a meat hauler to me. I don't see any client pictures. If you guide a small tailwater, wouldn't you want to protect the target species?

As the current chair of the TPWD Freshwater Fisheries Advisory Board as well as a past president of GRTU, I've been able to keep up with all the trout stockings on the Guadalupe for the last decade. Preast is correct in that the last browns were stocked by GRTU in 2004, my first year as president of the chapter. They disappeared from the river rapidly thereafter. TPWD does not stock browns in any of its many venues. If anyone would like to consult with the TPWD hatcheries director or the fisheries biologist that manages their rainbow trout stocking program, I'd be happy to provide their contact information via private message.

Any yes, those pictures make me ill.

I know for a fact those little trout tpwd stocks can make it. Last fall I took a mask and snorkel to the hole below the dam and looked around for a bit. They were there and not very small anymore. Surprised me since that place gets slammed all winter but some get smart quick and ignore all the power bait and super dupers. In the local ponds they stock that is definitely a put&take fishery but the Guad is obviously sustainable and should be protected beyond the zone.

It clearly states Catch and Release - and No these photos were not cropped off some other guiding ad - we work with that Outfitter and these are His photos. We are not an outfitter - We contract out with Outfitters to help them sell their trips at affordable prices to you all. And he fishes for Rainbows - these are photos of Rainbows - not brown trout. And all I can go off of is what the Outfitter tells me or what I found online through researching when the last Browns were seen in the Guadalupe. Regardless - this Outfitter plays by all the rules, does catch and release and fishes for Rainbow Trout! So...if you would like to book a nice Rainbow Trout Fishing Trip with an experienced guide on the Guadalupe let us know - Pat - 855-486-4665.
