Was looking at some fishing line ads, and see some lines that are co-polymer. I know fluoro, mono, and braid. Is co-polymer the same as braid, or something different?
Are they good? Why would you use co-polymer rather than one of the other lines? Thanks,
Jim

It is a combination of flouro/mono mixed together.

Actually I think its a just a combination of nylon polymers compared to just one as in a mono filament. You can get hybrids that are fluorocarbon coated copolys. Copolymer is stronger, less stretch, floats higher

Copolymer is a newer line, it came onto the market fairly recently. Copolymer was developed to be more abrasion resistant, have increased knot strength, and to have a thinner diameter. Copolymer is the second most abrasion resistant line on the market, behind braided. Copolymer line excels when fished around structure but can also be used in many other situations. Copolymer also has another great characteristic, the knot strength. Copolymer is very slick on the outer coating which allows knots to tighten without damaging the line. Copolymer has many great features, but the single most important is that unlike monofilament, copolymer does not float so it cannot be used for topwater. However, copolymer can be used for every other situation. Due to the ability to sink, copolymer can be used for deep diving crankbaits whereas mono cannot. Using a combination of monofilament and copolymer lines an angler can fish every type of situation imaginable at little cost.
Google can find anything on any subject.
Co-polymer has been out for awhile since this was written.

I'm a big fan of McCoy's Mean Green Co-polymer.

Actually, I have to say that McCoys has been made for over 50 years. It is produced by two nylon strands and McCoys has some stretch too it. It is the best line I have found for cranking, spinnerbaits, topwater, nearly all moving baits. It does have enough stretch to it that using in for jigs or C-rigs or T-rigs might be a little chancy, so I use other lines for those applications. STRONG, GREAT ABRASION RESISTENCE, some STRETCH to it and almost NO MEMORY. Hope this helps.
Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I think Mccoy's copolymer floats, not sinks.

It does, because it is made with silicone as well.
Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Thanks Thad!!!
I'm a c-rig and t-rig nut and McCoys is all I use.
Just be careful when you are snitching down the knot as not to "burn" the coating on the line.

Best topwater line out there unless using braid. Floats better than mono. I agree mcoys is great line. Have used it up to 25lb

I'm not a fan of co-poly. It is really thick and easy to get kinked up.
I have a Largemouth at home....sometimes she lets me go fishing.
