I am thinking that around mid-May I want a three/four day trip down to the Surfside area to fish surf/pier or near in-shore. Will this be a good time or is there a better timeframe? The current main interest is Trout as I have bent led to believe that mid-Sept is the better time for big reds.

I have fished inshore/offshore from SPI to Venice 8hr/24hr/36hr/54hr and have another 54hr booked for this fall and for now just want a laid back event and good fishing there would be a bonus as I have never been to the Surfside area.

All inputs would be appreciated.

Big bull reds are also in the surf in the spring. Although, they probably will have moved on by May. We usually hit them around Spring Break.

The marsh will be full of reds just waiting for a shrimp, crab, or minnow fly.

Thanks for the inputs. However, I have been advised the "we" are going to Roundtop the first of April antique shopping (in which I have no interest!!!) thus if I park her there for three days and slip on down to Surfside will ther rewards be better? (ignoring the credit card)

The weather will dictate what the fish will be doing then. You'll just have to monitor the conditions and catch reports and apply them to the type of fishing you plan to do.

If you can find some glass minows near the jetties (either galveston or freeport)... then you have a chance at catching some trout. They will be very keyed in on Glass minnows at that time. It predominantly a bay side bite, but there could be some amount on the jetties and near passes. Good luck.
