So you are suggesting minimum I should get is 9 amp hr battery? Would a 5 amp hr battery not work?

If it has GPS and you have it on the split screen then it will drain the battery faster. Just think how fast it drains your phone if you use it.

I'm probably one of the few that prefers the AA battery pack. I can put rechargeable batteries in it, its easy to hide/store, and it last 12 hours or so. When I get a larger, more powerful ff, I may change my mind. But with my Lowrance Elite 4x, the AA's work just fine.

I use a 7 a/h, but haven't tested it for more than a 3 hour trip. I just put it in a disposable rubbermaid container and wedged some styrofoam so it doesn't slide around. It's not really waterproof but I'll get a dri-bag for it just to be safe. I wedge it between scupper holes as well.
