Put in @ Sanger park 2 trailers on the parking lot. Both boats never left the Marina freaking North winds from hell. Anyways gulls hitting the water like crazy @ marina Tires. Caught shad, wich are in there by the thousand's. Literally hundreds dead on the boat ramp from those strong south winds earlier this week. Burned to Cates Point. Tried 17-23' then 30-40'Nada,zilch.... So I take a brutal boat trip back to the marina thinking why did I leave where all the bait fish were/???? Water at tires is around 27'. Graphed some fish, again nada, zilch. Water was 40 to 42 degrees.thats todays update.PS very bad day to take the wife...lol.

I can tell you what the trouble was. We went out the day before you did and only managed 5 eaters. To make a clean filet I had to remove all 5 of their stomachs because they were unbelievably distended and hard, being jam packed with those inch long shad you saw on the ramp. I can't explain why the ones we caught even took the bait. No way they were hungry.

Fish will gorge themselves on food and then vomit it up only to gorge themselves again. When the combination of the oil from the fish they swallowed and the stomach juices come out of their mouths, it rises to the surface causing a "slick". When it is real windy you usually cant see the smooth patch "slick" on the water surface. It also has a smell like a watermelon. We fished a slick a couple of weeks ago on Lake Houston and caught a few. Have fished slicks before in West Galveston Bay and caught limits of specks.
