Anyone know if Don's Port boat ramp open.May be windy and just thought I might put in about mid lake instead of Log Cabin.

Someone has bought Dons port and reopening it and tikki hut in the spring. Ramp is still open, there is a gentleman there to take your money.

The fish were suspended at 25ft in 40 foot of water when I left at 2:45. We were a mile south of Spillway hump, deadsticking crappie jigs, while thumping the side of the boat over bait. Got a couple nice hybrids and fifty whites between 1:00 and 2:45.

Lucky for me Old Coach invited me to go with him. Don's Port worked out for us(steep ramp but easy in/out). Wind reports were for 14mph South wind changing to West then to North. I was worried that wind may be a factor in getting on and staying with the fish. Not to worry as none of those predictions were true except that it did switch to North late in the day. Arrived at the lake and launched the boat only to see that CC was socked in with thick fog, entire lake. We decided to use common sense and gps to slowly navigate to Merimack point. Kind of scary going but there were very few other boats on the lake. Tried several spots
but only one fish until about Noon. Finally got on fish and figured out the pattern. Two weeks ago they were on the bottom, today they were suspended 10ft off the bottom (see graph pic). Two weeks ago we caught 80% females, today we caught 80% males? 5 or 6 of the males (see pic) look like they were already fighting for the right to spawn.
For us the rig that worked best was a silver slab on bottom then a blue baby shad and jig head up 12-18". Wind? what wind, it was glass until about 2 then it came out of the North. We headed back towards the ramp when Rob spotted a big school on the graph. These were not suspended but on the last 10 fow to the bottom. We stopped went back caught one fish and then they were gone and we could not find them or entice them to come back with thumping.
It was cold, windy and wet so we called it a day. Started out bad but ended up being a good day fishing with a great fishing partner. Cedar Creek has been a great place to fish this winter.

etu - You are so right I have met several through this website and I appreciate them all.
Old Coach and I met on a trip to Texoma with JD Lyle during the great flood in 2007. My son was having some extreme personal problems and I thought it would do him some good to get away and treat him to a Texoma fishing trip. I booked a trip with JD and told him that if anyone else wanted to join us, that would be great, and Old Coach (Robert) was the one. One of JD's guides picked us up from the bank at Grand Pappy's because all of the marinas were flooded and inacessable. We started the day fishing top water in trees that were normally on dry ground then moved to live bait. I will never forget that Old Coach more or less let Bryan man the poles and reel them in. Bryan had the time of his life. Old Coach and I talked about our passion for fishing and that's how it began. When we go it is his boat, his gas, his equipment, his expertise that puts us on fish. He has a passion for fishing and will do anything he can to find fish. I think for most of us fishing is not about catching fish (which I really like to do) but about the experiences we have with the people we meet and being on the lake.

Great story Steve and am glad it worked out.I've met a couple guys fishing with JV. Met a few guys fishing with Matt on Tawakoni and with JD on Texoma! All great outdoors guys who love to get on the waters. Have fished with GP and Fishboy and am constantly learning new things. Love reading reports on here and hope to fish with many more great people from here.

We were also there Saturday... We ended up with about 60 between the three of us.. No hybrids this trip though. All fish were caught on hump and point in 36 ft of water using moes pikwi slab with fluke or thump buddy tied above. We have caught some huge hybrids on the thump buddy this year.
