It seems as if most of you are targeting larger, trophy fish, using 8-0 & 10-0 hooks. I target smaller eater fish. I'm happy with nothing larger than 5#. What, if any, is the scale on what size hook for what size fish? helpsign I've been told that a 2# fish can take a 5-0 hook. Give me some facts. Thanks

I think if you are targeting 5# and under, the larger hooks wouldn't make sense simply based on the fish mouth size.

I've caught numerous 14-16 inch channels as well as 2-3lb blues on 8/0 circles. I would have taken small fish awards this past Saturday with the one I caught, little dude gnawed down a head long enough he got the hook!
I haven't specifically targeted smaller fish, but would imagine a 5/0 would work just fine on them and still get you by when the big one you don't want gets on.

5/0 is an all around good size,if a fish cant get a chunk of bait and a 5/0 in its mouth
it isnt worth cleaning(seriously)
