Fished LLELA last weekend and caught a delicious trout and crappie dinner! We were fishing for crappies and my sis caught the only one, but I ended up catching a few trout on our crappie minnows. One of the trout was 16" and is the largest trout I have caught or seen in Texas! Baked it with butter, herbs and spices and it came out great! It spoiled me not having to pick out the tiny bones on those 8" stockers!

Pretty cool! Never fished that spot, what are boundaries and rules over there? Looks like it might be a good spot to hike and fish, or is the only action right by the spillway?

Nice fish! Can you tell us more about LLELA? There is not much information about fishing on the website. Are you fishing the ponds or the river? Is it normally crowded out there? I am always looking for a new hike and fish spot.

I didn't even know you could fish there. Thought it was all for education purposes. More details?

You can only bank fishing at LLela, from the top at the wall, or from the rocks. LLela only open for public on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 6am to 6pm. There is $5 entry fee, or $30 annual access fee. When they release the water, you can catch cats, sandies, hybrids, crappies, carps, buffelos. If no water releasing, fishing would be tough, but you can stil catch cats.

when you say "from the rocks" what does that mean exactly?
can u only fish at the actual spillway and the rocks right after? on google maps it looks like there are a few trails and some nice banks...

Thanks guys! You can walk the trails down the river from the dam and catch fish. Lots of people flyfishing for the trout, and yes they can be caught down river, not just right at the dam. There are lots of big buffs you can site fish if you get bored with the trout too. Just walk the trail until you see them roaming and put your bait in the general area. They will eat trout bites and put up an impressive battle on trout or crappie gear! The area is nice with lots of wildlife. Saw lots of red-tailed hawks and some deer when we were driving up. Llela is a nice place to catch a few before the spring spawn starts up. The only special regulations I have heard of are "no use of cast nets or seines", and "you may not use a can as a fishing pole". There were signs that actually said that in the park!

"you may not use a can as a fishing pole". There were signs that actually said that in the park! Does this apply to plastic soda bottles as well?

if yall could have seen that place 4-5 years ago, all those signs would make sense.. there are a couple real nice holes to catch trout down from the spillway. use your fishing senses to find them

Rudy C. and I have been there a few times and one day we got into several nice trout after a stocking these were hitting Rooster Tails and they were downstream in one of the large pools.
