Howdy there,

So I'm moving from Canyon Lake to College Station and was curious as to how much bass fishing/fishing in general was in the area and if would be worth giving a shot. I've heard that there are some ponds in town that they stock and a pond by George Bush library that holds fish, but my buddy whose been there a year has said he's fished multiple areas and hasn't had a bite anywhere.

Help me out guys, I need something to do while I'm not working/doing school :P

Gibbons Creek for bass.

Somerville for whites, hybrids, catfish, crappie and bass.

Municipal Golf Course pond has some nice bass in it. Research Park ponds were always good for a bass or two.

Lake Bryan has some decent size bass. Throw a crankbait parallel to the rocks along the dam and you should pick up a few fish. Theres Crappie in there too. In March & April they move into the channel and can be caught very shallow.

Lake Somerville is about a 45 minute drive, but can present some opportunities. If we get a good rain or two, February & March can be great fishing for White Bass in the creeks.

Don't forget about Conroe, Fayette and Bastrop which are around an hours drive from CS. I'd say those lakes are well worth the drive vs your other options for bass.

Gibbons Creek, then Fayette, then Somerville, then Bryan. Coming from Canyon, you may feel more at home at Conroe. Also good fishing but I've always been intimidated by its size.

I've been in CS for the past three years, and Somerville has been the best bass lake for me. Normally catch anywhere from 6-10 in a couple hours when I'm there. Never had any luck at Gibbons except for Crappie. Hope this helps, man.

Canyon Lake, eh? My answer would be take the short drive and go to school in AUSTIN!! (That's what I did!).......Lake Austin was 4 miles from my campus apartment!I use to fish before school. Ha, sorry buddy. I had to. I couldn't resist.....No, really, but anyway, Aggie Golfer guy up above is correct. Bastrop and Fayette are both great lakes, in case you have not been. March-May can be outstanding! Good luck!

I live in college station, and ive done well fishing in all the local ponds. The bryan golf course is dirty but holds alot of fish plus some decent size, and theres crappie in there Finfeather lake holds a ton of fish but no real size, my best in there is 2.5lbs, but ive had 20 fish days. Theres bass in the cspd pond and some crappie. Gabbard park has bass, central park has bass, but you have to work for them and some decent cats. The fishing here should start to heat up as the weather does, as long as the wind starts to lay down.

Ive heard good things about gibbons creek, but ive never really tried it there
