Yesterday I stopped by Academy and bought my first H20 swimbait for a great deal!
Never fished a Swim bait in my life and after this morning's trip I want to buy a few more to add.
What are some good Swimbaits out on the market that are good but not too expensive?
Also what are some good Swimbait rods? I was using my Cara Amistad rod for my first swimbait cast and it worked well for my first time.
Any thoughts or advise will help! Thanks TFF

God bless!

I really like the Dobyns 795SBMT as it covers a lot of good smaller swimbaits to even medium sized and also is a great A rig rod, 10XD and mag topwaters. I prefer the shorter handle a tad more than most but you can get same rod with bigger handle.
I am still starting out with swimbaits and trying to learn all I can but the 4 to 6" soft plastic baits made by companies like 3:16, Pro Swimbaits etc are money around here. I liked it so much I started getting everything to pour my own. Love that size line thru baits. I know www.swimbaitnation.coom has helped me a ton.

For the larger swimbaits like the huddleston's and osprey's I like using the Abu Garica 7'11" Veritas rod. I believe it's perfect for throwing these swimbaits because of it extended handle and with it's soft tip it let's the fish get the bait into their mouth's before the rod loads up and when you set the hook even on a long hook set it get's into the back bone of the rod perfectly.

Depends on size and weight of swim bait just match the size of lure
To the power of your rod. More weight=heavier action+longer rod

Hook Spit can custom make you a rod to your specs and it will be less expensive than most custom rods.

You can go into the Hook Spit store in League City and work directly with our guy that builds the rods. Y'all will talk about what you want the rod to do and he can show you several options for the blanks.

Then you pick out the type handle you prefer (cork or EVA foam, full handle or split grip, etc.), choose your colors for the eye wraps, decide how long you want the handle, etc.

That is a great option because it's designed to your specs. He can provide some input and recommendations, but for the most part you design it the way you want it.

We have several models coming out soon. None are actually designed around a swim bait, but I probably will try a swim bait on either our jig/worm rod or our flipping rod. The flipping rod probably will be too heavy for swim baits, but we will see. That's why I say designing it yourself to your specs is the best way to go.

I'd be glad to help any way I can if you have any questions.
