Myself and Mike "USMC_GY" hit the extreme icy trail and made it to the Canyon Trail Race. We had no problems at all getting there. We arrived at around 10:30am and had the whole place all to ourselves. The Trail Race had been stocked that night due to the weather conditions. We had a pool of very HUNGRY RAINBOW TROUT waiting for us. The rocks around us were covered with frost and ice. Me and Mike both made our first cast and "Wham" we both had fish. Needless to say we limited out in 20 minutes. We then switched to artificial lures and caught another 50 fish which were all released unharmed. 10 fish were kept for the dinner table. Fish were caught on Berkley trout bait-cheese color,Berkley trout bait chartreuse, cheese balls, jigs both white and chartreuse in colors, Super Duper lures both silver and gold colors,Betsy Minnow lures, and Berkley Power Worms-orange in color. After fishing for an hour and a half two other anglers arrived and shortly after that two more. A total of six including me and Mike were fishing. We left em biting at 2pm and made our way to Granny D's for a GREAT breakfast. Spending a cold winter day catching Rainbow Trout on the Guadalupe River. It don't get any better. fish

Looks great, as always I've gotta ask about the food, how was "Granny D's"? Looks like my kind of place.

Thanks Jim and "Creek Rat" for the replies. thumb Jim: Yes sir it is going to be a cold Tuesday morning. If there are any trout left they should be super active! hooked I see that there are still a couple of stockings left for the San Antonio area. Millers Pond and Espada Park both have a stocking left in February. eeks

Good job! Sounds like a great day fishing. I was thinking about trying my hand at trout fishing for the first time. I'd like to catch my first one. I figure my ultra light gear would work? I thought almost that whole section of river was private. Is there some public places or are most of them secret spots where you have to know somebody that knows someone? Thanks alot. I'm definitely new to it.
