Here's what I did....

I washed the boat...soap and water...rinsed good. Dried it....

I used 2000 grit sand paper...not saying 1000 isn't right...just used what I was told at the time. I would wet sand a small area at a time. Wash that area off with clean water and dry it. Then I'd start another small area. Each time I'd wet sand an area I'd apply a small coat of wax just to see if it looked ok before proceeding. When I was all done I put another coat of wax every where I wet sanded. Maintain it now with a washing and Hula Boat detailer.

NOW!!! Here's a step I had forgotten til just recently....Wet sand....clean the area good...use a rubbing compound and buff that out...THEN wax....I am in the process of re-carpeting my boat. I had a couple of minutes and did what I just said on a small area and what very lil oxidation that was there is gone.

My 2001 Ranger 520 looks very good...but when I'm done carpeting it and get it out to get that first fresh coat of wax for spring , before I do it I'll redo the gunnel and a couple of areas....and it'll look literally like new.

Whatever you try or do....try it in a small out of the way place just to test what your doing.

Good luck!!

I'm thinking my oxidation wasn't real bad... Or as bad as I've seen others! I'll try the 2k paper next! I found the polishing tools at the auto parts house!
I had to leave town for a few days for work!!!

Well I'm like you...I enjoy doing that type of stuff....

I work nights to (3-11) , so during the day I have plenty of time usually to do this type of thing if I'm not out fishing in my kayak. THis is my only boat I plan on owning barring hitting the lottery...so keeping it looking nice and protected is important.

Enjoy your boat...enjoy that shine...When you bring it off the water wipe it down and use some quick detail stuff like that hula boat I mentioned....It'll help keep it looking nice.

Well you did an outstanding job! I haul over sized loads! I work a few times a month... Winters are real slow, so after I get the shine up, I'm going to tackle the carpet!!!
This passes the time of day while I'm waiting for a good load to come up!
Again thanks for the inspiration! That looks great!

Mine didn't come out near as nice as red mans... But that red really does pop!
If I ever buy a new from the showroom, it will be red!

I did my top cap last year but what about the bottom hull? Mine is chalky and if you get it wet it comes off but comes right back.
