Ok any old timers remember going to a place on the brazos, fishing the sandbass run, up above Hamm Creek, used to be called Goatneck.
Right outside Cleburne. Paid the guy that owned the land 1 or 2 dollars to park and walk down to the river. Once there the river was maybe
15-20 yds wide and about 4 ft deep. Sandbass looked like salmon swimming up river, used to just slaughter them by the hundreds.
Course that was about 50 yrs ago too. Was just wondering if anyone still goes there.

I haven't been there since the 80"s, but sure have memories!! We used to put in at Hamm Creek. Have put in up North and "canoed" down too. Those where the day's when striper fishing was incredible on the main lake too.

Geez we are old LOL

All my memories with my dad are Texoma related but I do remember Tawakoni with no water in it being cleared, we squirrel hunted the river there and the islands between the 2 mile bridge and Sun Point. There was lots of game trapped on them. Sometimes a dead deer would be seen that did not make the swim to shore.

OK, I used to fish the spring spawning run in a place we called the Mud Flats downstream from Eagle Mountain Lake dam and upstream from Lake Worth. It's now where the Ft Worth nature preserve is, and they made it non accessible to the bank fishing we used to do. We went there in the 60s- 80s on my family's Easter visits to wife's parents' place at EM. When it was too windy to fish on the lake, the father-in-law and I would drive down to the Mud Flats and manage to catch enough sandies for a meal.

That place was called Cedar Bluff. The place where the money box was located was the mother's house. She died some years ago and the son that lived down by the river kept it going for a while. It is all shut down now. Unless you know one of the land owners near by you have to launch at Hamms Creek. Last several years there not been enough water to get all the to Cedar Bluff without having to get and drag your boat a ways. The sandies still get up there though. It was and still great fishing when the water is up. Caught a lot of stripers up above Cedar Bluff

LOL Dang yogi !!! 50 years ago I didn't know what a fish was --LOL-- rolfmao

But since everyone is bringing up old times. I remember fishing in a creek off 175 towards Kaufman I think it was kings creek and catching sand bass one after another . I also had one break off with the lure in his mouth and ten minutes later I caught him again and got my lure back --LOL-- rolfmao

Denise was just telling me about when you all went fishing out at Goat Neck. thumb

Did she tell u we used to skip school during the sandbass run and go behind Ray Hubbard dam, it was kinda like goatneck, we would park by this guys house
pay him 2 bucks to walk across his pasture, only to have to walk down a steep bank before you got to where u could fish, we weren't 40 yds from the dam, fishing that little basin there
that was another place we use to kill em

Use to go to a place called Bakers Camp on the Brazos around Goatneck. Near what they called Bee Mountain. Went to high school with the son Walt. He would let us in free. Caught tons of sand bass in the spring. That was early 70's . Haven't been there in years.

The Clements owned Cedar Bluff. I'd start calling Mrs Clements late January for fishing reports. Saw several trailers run off that little ramp. Once I waded upstream and when I returned with a stringer there were 2 old guys frying fillets. They told everyone to help themselves and of course you gave them fillets and cold beers. Best sandy fillets ever. There was a rock overhang you could shelter from the rain. For a couple of years there was a cafe with a pool table. You had to walk up steep steps to get there prolly 50 yards downstream. Sometimes they had gas.

In the early 70s you could access the river at a place called Spring Creek. Prolly a mile upstream from Cedar Bluff and you came in from the other side of the river at the rapids. Some jackhole shot one of the guys cows so he denied access.

Also found a pretty good ramp a couple of miles downstream same side as Cedar Bluff but the guy got in trouble with the IRS so he stopped too. Dayum. Memories

Went there all the time back in the 60's. I think it was called Roach's camp.

Yep. Ran the river from Kimball to past Goat Neck for years. Used to camp at Braden's, which was closer to Nemo. It closed years ago. Caught tons of sandies all up and down. Water was up pretty good a couple of years ago, but since then, not so much. Wish it would catch some water, and I'd have the camper at Kimball Park, or Hamm Creek!!
