I have purchased my first depth Humminbird depth finder. It is a 788ci combo. I have read the manual and watched as many videos as I can find, but I would like to know what a few experienced fellas might recommend as far as settings. I know that I can adjust settings such as kHz, sensitivity, and many other useful tools. What would y'all recommend if I am looking for simple things like baitfish and structure?

I bought the 1198 and really struggle to identify fish. I can find balls of baitfish just fine...but finding little dots and guessing they are fish....kinda frustrating.

Thank you Lord for the gifts in my life

Make sure your chart speed matches your speed. I have mine set on 1 on the bow cause you fish less than 1 mph. I have my console set at 3-5 depending on how fast I want to cover water.

Here's what I did after adjusting and tweaking settings time and time again: bought Lowrance units and I've never looked back. They can make a bait ball arch.

I use mine on the bow through my universal transducer on my Minnkota Powerdrive V2. I use the dual beam because it shows a wider area. And then I have an 1198 SI unit off the transom. That 788CI is a really good unit
