It has crossed my mind , but there has been a couple comparisons that sound like the improved version is not much larger than the oem part.

I've looked at RealBigReel's 2 kayak builds on txkayakfisherman.com, and he builds pretty big rudders. I'm guessing a 25% increase in size would be very noticeable on most kayaks.

I think the PA is definitely under-ruddered. I'll bite on that for sure.
Christian- Maybe you should strap a couple of those cafeteria trays to your paddle since your looking for a blade with more bite!

I just bought the sailing rudder for my Outback. Going to try it out on Saturday at the Grapevine tourney.

So we have 2 commitments for 2 hobies and a set for Christian's paddle. We only need 20 more commits to get a carton.....who's in?
On a more serious note, I find the biggest issue with the PA rudder is just getting the boat to turn starting from a standstill. Obviously, you need some water flow across the rudder to make it work....but I have found that a quick back and forth of the rudder under these conditions seems to "kick in" the rudder a little sooner. I wouldn't mind trying a bigger rudder....fire up the welder Christian!
