Been going where reports say fishing is good with the bait that is recommended and not having much luck. We launch the boat from the Port A marina by the Ferry's. Where is a good place to go fishing for Reds and Specs. what is best time, best bait and best rig.
We used VOODOO shrimp and gulp shrimp with popping cork, Used double hook rig with dead shrimp. Fished East Flats, along the Inter Coastal Channel, The main channel above the ferry's, in housing developments with canals and fish passes. We have put in at Packary Channel gone in at the inlet channel south of the launch that leads to the housing development. End result one sting ray. We continue to do well surf fishing but this fishing from a boat has us stumped.

It is tough right now. I have been several times the last week with no luck and looking at the other Corpus forums, that seems to be a consistent theme. They just seem to have lockjaw! There have been a lot of boats in South Bay every time I go by. I haven't stopped because there have been so many boats and the duck hunters in their airboats annoy me, but they must be there for a reason. Here is a link to southbay map http://www.coastalbendfishing.com/fishing-location/south-bay

Even knowing the area that fish have been caught is not necessarily all it takes. One must be able to read the water to locate the school of fish. It's been a relatively cool winter with now tides all winter as well. makes for tough fishing even for the best.
I the winter I tend to fish the days with a little south in the wind direction. preferably several days after a frontal passage, and possibly even the day before a new front.
They are there. I have seen plenty good repots of catches.

If u Mr nt t mind sheep head..swing by the fina docks with some live shrimp, ghost shrimp,or dead shrimp for that matter...heard theres a ton of them out there with an occassional drum..u can always tie off to the structure and its well protected from the north wind....one of my favorite year around fishing spots!

Fina Docks are straight across the ship channel from the Port Aransas City Harbor/Marina.
