anyone can tell me if Choke Canyon is a good place to tent camp and fish? i am in Lubbock and am on my way to Corpus Christi. have my camping gear and am looking for a nice place to camp and fish for a couple of days. i wonder if now is a good time to go fishing there. I do not have boat with me. would love to join and shear costs.
thanks,

The lake is 23+ ft low now, fishing has been off for some time now. Check out the State Park at Calliham (361) 786-3868, they have a long rock jetty that you could fish from perhaps. Watch out for the gators as well, lots of them roam around. Good Luck Debra

thanks,
ilana I think the State Park at Lake Mathis would be better as of right now, the staff at Caliham State Park aren't the nicest people around and they tend to run the park with a iron hand. Plus there's a nice fishing dock at Lake Mathis.

Good Luck Debra I can verify that, first time there I slept on a picnic table since we decided to stay for the next day, woke up to 5-6 of em all round me. tiptoed over to the truck and woke the partner up, he was not too happy till he looked outside.

Calliham would be a great place to camp and fish a little. Probably won't catch a whole lot but it could be a nice relaxing trip. Person was probably right about the park workers being a holes but just don't give them any reason to mess with you. As far as the alligators go, you don't mess with them and they won't mess with you. It's as simple as that! You can have a lot of fun just cooking out, fishing a little, napping and just relaxing!
