Arrived at daybreak and was on the water before sunrise, then headed straight to wolf pond 3 miles downstream.

Yes it was cold.. that is ice on the top of my yak, water was freezing on contact and my fingers were numb.. It's all good...

Going early and very quietly lets you see things otherwise hidden ...

Man, those are some awesome pictures Ben!

It was a beautiful day on the creek. The fishing was pretty good. I had to go quite a ways downstream from Newman's Bottom before I caught anything, but once I found the fish the bite was good. Or rather, once I found Ben, the bite got good. grin

There were quite a few cars in the parking lot at Newman's but the majority didn't belong to fisherman. I saw Ben, Chris "stinkbob" from TFF, two other kayakers, and only a few bank fisherman.

cry Found out I have a small crack in the bottom of my kayak. Ughhh!

I got there after you did. Def didn't have as much luck as you, but did see quite a bit of wildlife around. Was a beautiful day and enjoyed every second of it. 1st time out with a kayak launching from NB, so much easier than launching from Nails!

Just got back from Birch and Nails state park. Guys at Birch were catching limits of crappie off the pier in to the night and morning. As your looking at the pier fish the left side right across from light pole which doesn't work. Bring light to lower down to the water to bring the fish in. Nails looks really low and had a lot of horses there.

It sounds like the crappie are doing their usual winter gang-up. If you find one you can bet he's got lots of buddies with him smile
