Hey Y'all! Ive been busy during the break. Ill be moving soon so those plans have kept me off the water every now and then. A few times I hit the laguna with great company. Fog has been crazy some mornings.

Trout have been coming in with slow worked she tops and full size skitters. Ive had to use a DOA shrimp and swimbaits worked really slow on the bottom. Not much size on them but nice keepers from 16-23 inches.

Now I had a awesome chance to head up north and fish the Capital City Kayak Tournament on Lake Bastrop. Friday afternoon I left with my buddy Robert to chase after some Largemouth bass and donate money to the other anglers in the tourny.
The state park was awesome and camping with the capital city crew was a killer time. The only down side was a broken heater 35 degree weather and only one blanket that was too thin haha.
Up at 4AM Freezing! It was my first look at the lake and man it was AWESOME! The water was a lot warmer than the air so steam was just rising off the water.

The morning was COLD and my hands were frozen solid. I missed a few bumps early because of the ice hands. The sun came up and I decided to paddle over to another area that I thought looked good.

I was trolling a crank bait and BAM it starts diving down, Fish on! After some tense moments I have my first Largemouth from the kayak in the net!

I was already ecstatic about the tournament so far and anything else would be icing on the cake. I got to the new spot and checked out the environment. Lots of grass around so I tied on a jig with a babycraw and started bouncing it around the grass.
I had one large bass follow the jig to the kayak and miss the hit. I backed off the area and started to cover it with a crank bait worked slow to keep just over the grass. Bam hooked up again!

It wasnt the same big bass I saw but in a tourny ill take what I can get. After a while we moved locations and RObert picks up his first bass on a bright crank.

The winds picked up and I couldnt find any keeper bass. We headed out to the weigh in. I didnt place but didnt do too bad either. It was a great time. Beau Reed and the rest of the Capital City crew run a AWESOME tournament and they were beyond helpful to this saltwater kayaker.
Also, Dez Davis makes Supernova fishing lights..they are SICK! Check them out! Beau had them all over his kayak and it was too cool. Ill be getting some in the future for my night adventures.
Ill have more reports out later when I get back into the saltwater game and kayak wars starts back up.
Till Next Time
Life is Good.
