Anyone ever used them for crappie cover? If so, how do they hold up? Do they hold/attract fish the same?

Brandon, I don't see why they wouldn't work. Pretty expensive, I'm thinking!
I'd handle them the same way you do live trees and such and they should last a lot longer than live trees.

Thanks Bob. I found 5ft - 7ft trees on clearance from $25 to $40. They weren't anything special as far as Christmas trees go but looked like perfect crappie houses.

im doing the same thing this year. wife trashed a couple of our old 7-8 ft fake trees and those stupid rein deer that have moving heads. i stripped all the junk out of them so its just trees and metal cages. should last a long time down there.

Might want to check local/state regs before dropping them out,, or do it at midnight.. LOL. I believe fake Christmas tree limbs are made of lead, right, so they can be bent into position?

They may or may not have lead in them. If they were made before 2007 they probably have lead in them. If they were manufactured after 2007 they may be lead free.

Christmas tree manufacturers rebut these claims. "There is no lead in the PVC used to manufacture artificial Christmas trees. It's the same PVC used to manufacture IV tubing and other medical supplies, not to mention just about everything we all use everyday," Jami Warner of the American Christmas Tree Association, a trade group of artificial tree producers and retailers, wrote in an email.
