Sorry for all the questions about tuna fishing, little nervous about it and want to make sure I have a good first trip!
My question: I have a Penn Battle 6000 with 300 yards of 50# Spiderwire braid on it. The reel is on a Ugly Stik Tiger rod, I think 20-50lb rated with a graphite reel seat. Was wondering if this would be good enough to cast lures for tuna. I have a couple diamond jigs and am considering purchasing one of those flying fish lures. Would this be a decent enough setup to not break off OK-sized YFT? (50-80lb). I'm not expecting it to hold up to monsters, but being able to reel in blackfin and maybe a yellowfin is what I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance! I also have a chunk rod/reel penn 50 class so this is to keep me occupied while waiting for hits on that.

the Penn battle will hold up as i have caught some good YFT on one. not sure about the rod as i have not seen or used one, how long is it? Are you planning on using your battle spinner as a jig reel or for casting poppers and lures out beyond the lights? for lures i would pick up some magaroni's and dark poppers if you are going to be casting surface baits out beyond the lights.. i don't really use spinners for jigging but i know some people do...

Kinda new to the terminology, when I say that I'm using it to jig I meant cast out and retrieve. I'm terrible at casting conventional reels and I love my Penn Battle to death. I will definitely look at those lures you mentioned. I've heard a couple people mention magaroni's and the flying fish ones would be just plain cool to catch a YFT on.
Would the Penn 50SW be good for vertical jigging? And does that work well with tuna? I have an 8oz diamond jig I was thinking might catch something

the 50sw is way overkill to jig with, the weight of the thing would wear you out in just a few minutes and also the retrieve rate is way to low... you can use it for your chunk rig though... there should be people with extra jigging setups that can let you borrow one with the understanding that if you break it you replace it...

The battle is slightly better than a spheros. It should work. You have a light tuna rod. Any over 60 pounds are gonna be hard to fight. You could jig with it, too. But same deal.. you arent gonna have more than 15 pounds of drag.
