I want to try using tubes this Spring. Anyone have some tips? Anything from types of rods/reels, line, rigs, etc. would be appreciated.

I like to fish tubes on a spinning rod with 20# braid with 15# fl carbon leader. 3/16 oz jig head with anything green dip tails in chart dye....

if heavy cover peg it with 1/4oz and texas rig on baitcasting gear. Great flipping bait.

Shaw Grigsby HP hooks are a must. I think Eagle Claw has the same one, got a keeper on top. Tubes are a perfect bed fishing bait.

If you Texas rig, cut the back of the tube where the hook is opposite of the point. That way it has to go through less plastic and will increase hookups wink

Good advice from Okie and Rudy. I use tubes sometimes, especially if the lake level has risen and vegetation is flooded. I like white because it resembles a shad. In vegetation, I throw it weightless most of the time - it sinks very slowly. Around sparse cover like stumps and dock supports, I like to push a 1/8 oz. bullet weight as far up into the tube as I can for a spiral fall. I agree that the Shaw Grigsby HP hooks are good tube hooks because the clip pinches the tube against the hook and helps it stay put. Push the hook point all the way through both walls of the tube and skin hook it for a good hookup.

In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.
