I am looking for some assistance from the TFF Family...
I am heading to South Florida to fish Okeechobee next weekend for three days and am flying on Southwest and so "bags fly free" - as I look to pack, obviously there are a few flippin sticks in the pile that i would like to bring but the SW baggage policy in their website reads as follows:
Fishing tackle box and fishing rod, so long as the rod is encased in a cylindrical fishing rod container suitable to Carrier for withstanding normal Checked Baggage handling without sustaining damage to the rod. Fishing rod containers may measure up to [b]three inches in diameter and 91 inches in length.
Do any of you know if that is a hard and fast number of would they take my old well traveled Plano rod tube - with rods in it longer than 91" - please share your experiences - because it sounds like if they measure and its over - is costs $75 (each way) as oversized...
I'm trying to figure if I can pack the Dobyns 805 Flip/Punch and 7'11" Halo on the trip - and for that matter maybe even the Dobyns 766 - or does it have to be older telescoping flippin sticks and some 7'3" & 7'4" sticks?
Thanks for any guidance you all can provide....

I've flown SW with my Plano and longer rods, but I had to pay extra.

Are you using a guide? Most of the guides on Okeechobee will provide good equipment.

Hey Scott,
I have what is called a jumbo airliner and it isn't anywhere close to those dimensions and I've never had a problem.
Good luck down there.

I think it counts same as a piece of luggage.
If the phone doesn't ring, it's me. I'm still fishin!
