Anyone know of a good family friendly campsite on the water that you would recommend? I want to rent a site and take the family on an old fashion bond fire, weenie roast..maybe camping if the weather is nice. It probably needs to be on this side of the world. Grapevine lake, fort worth area.

The best place I have camped is Lake Cooper. Stayed in one of the cabins and man it was like a mini vacation. The cabins are like little houses so it does not matter what the weather is like. A little far from where you are but worth the drive in my opinion. Lake is low but still nice.

If you want to "rough it" a little bit more (AKA tent), my first kayak fishing experience was camping on Purtis Creek. Very cool little lake with a ton of bass in it. Two lighted fishing piers. Nice camp sites. Again kind of a hike though, maybe 2 hours from you.

We camped at Meadowmere Park campground for the fall get together. There some heavily wooded sites and wide open ones. We chose an open site on the ridge and actually did not set the tent up but hung a couple tarps and slept under the table shelter. Over the years we have become less stressed on accommodations and more on the outdoor experience enjoying life and what it offers at the moment. Less time on the road, more time to enjoy. /;-{)>> TAKE EM' CAMPING

Thanks guys! Lot of good suggestions here. I'll take a look at them over the weekend and see which one works best for us!

I'm not camping at Bonham this weekend. I may however be camping at Cooper on Sunday night!

Purtis creek is awesome. Beware the raccoons! Do not leave anything out. They are thick in that place. Awesome fishing!

X2 for Mineral Wells, it's a nice little lake with some decent fish in it.

No Joke here, but nice area to camp for sure Grapevine has a place called the Vineyard http://www.vineyardscampground.com/ that is nice for sure and has cabins, bike rentals not much roughing but a nice place for sure. Lake Lavon East Fork is not to bad as well in a safe enviorment, with a locked gate after 10 and local police monitoring the area. No cabins just camp grounds.
