I've never surf fished in Texas. I want to go down to south padre and fish the surf. I looked at the google maps for this area, and I see beach accesses 5 and 6. Beach access 6 is about a half mile before the road ends. Are there any parking regulations at these accesses? I drive a toyota camry and cant drive on the beach. Also, on the satellite image, I can see cars parked at the end of the park road where it dead ends. Can you park there and walk to the beach? Or can I park close to the entrance of the Beach Accesses and walk to the surf? I suppose someone could just drop me off at one of the accesses and let me fish all and then come back to get me later. Are these areas generally safe? Anyway, these questions probably seem dumb, but I dont want to assume anything or have surprises when I get there. I suppose I need to get a Texas saltwater fishing license to surf fish?

You just can't drive on the dunes. Everything else is at your own risk.

Depending on the beach conditions, you might or might not be able to take your 2wd vehicle on the beach. If you do you will need a beach parking permit which are for sale at any local gas station. If the conditions are bad for 2wd, very loose sand, you will probably have to park on the side of the beach access road and walk your gear to the beach. You do need to get a saltwater fishing license to fish.

JRSaltFishing, he is asking about South Padre Island. No beach parking permit required down there.
Hugehail, for fishing during low tide, your camry will work just fine. You have to enter at access 5 as 6 requires 4wd when it is not attended. Front wheel drive works real well going down the beach at low tide.
If you stay between access 5 and 6, you should be very safe. I have never had any problems down there. And,I have gone as far north as the Mansfield jetties in my 4X4 pickup. Many times I fish there alone.
Good luck. Keep and eye out for the fishing reports by Fishlady down in the Saltwater Fishing Reports section.

Unless they have done some grading at access 6, I would not try it. Deep soft sand at the entrance from there.

Any of the beach acesses you can fish at. Go early and find a spot with less people.
