Lake Kiowa has them and I know of at least one private lake in the area that has them.

Lake Kiowa feeds into Indian creek Ray Roberts

I LOVED the entire bit above from LoneStarCarper. A bit of accuracy amonngst a maelstrom of info/misinfo.

From TP&WD fishing regs: "an angler who catches one (grass carp) must immediately remove the intestines, except in waters where a valid Triploid Grass Carp Permit is in effect. In those waters, any grass carp caught must be immediately returned to the water unharmed." Did not see Ray Roberts on the list of "valid Triploid Grass Carp Permit," water bodies so evisceration (gutting or removing intestines) is the only legal course of action with respect to catching one of these.

Besides once its that big it isn't going to eat much grass anymore anyhow.

I'd rather see a rod or bolt through one of these than a huge 'gator gar....which is a native species.

What's funny is when people talk about the gator gar like they are going extinct! Lmao I went to Louisiana and we got into a cove and the gator gar were soooo thick in their spawning you could have walked for 100 yards on their backs and NEVER TOUCHED THE WATER! I'm talking about 4'-7+' long gator gar and their had to be a thousand of them! That was just in one area I was at. People don't realize they are a saltwater fish that moves into fresh water and yes they can survive and they do very well in many lakes in Texas. Their numbers are not declining in the least.

just so we all learn something out of this.

there is no such animal as a "buffalo carp"

A buffalo is a native fish to Texas, (native means they have always existed in Texas, GOD PUT THEM IN TEXAS)
They are a member of the Catostomidae family or "sucker fish" a totally different fish then a common carp or grass carp. They are most easly identified by the lack of barbels or "whiskers" and the down turned mouth.

A "Common Carp" is not a Native Fish to Texas but may be considered a "naturlized fish" as it has found a home in our man made non-native lakes so go ahead and group it, in with all the other fish GOD DID NOT PUT IN TEXAS LIKE THE FLORIDA STRAIN LARGE MOUTH BASS, WHITE BASS, HYBRID BASS, TROUT, WALLEYE AND CHANNEL CATFISH...Our Govt. took it upon themselfs to stock carp and all the above mentioned fish for our angling and eating pleasure. The frist freshwater fish hatchery for any species in Texas was dedicated to breeding and stocking common carp to move around the state it was established in Austin Texas on Barton Springs in or around 1881.

This is a Common carp, pictured with a common carp that lacks a normal scale pattern known as a mirror carp they are the same fish note the color and the barbels aka whiskers...

FINALLY the dead fish you see in the picture is what I would prefer everyone call a WHITE AMUR

COMPARING A WHITE AMUR TO A COMMON CARP IS LIKE CALLING A BLUEGILL A BASS

CASE IN POINT...

This is a really nice "Sunfish" it's not a member of the "true bass" family its in the sunfish family

These are also really nice sunfish, same family of fish as the sunfish above...

cheers cyclop cheers

Good Post!

Also, Is that your tank with the 3 carp?

Don't worry about the mule, just load the cart

Maybe the same way they got into Tyler. Waterfront homeowners complain and the City does everything it can to please them. Homeowners complained about the grass, they introduced carp, and now they are ruining the lake. Also, did you know the City of Tyler has banned bow-fishing on Tyler because the homeowners complained about the lights and noise from the generators. [/quote]

ughWhy is it always the homeowners.

The silver "big head carp" are not the same as the european common carp. Common carp are known to control zebra mussel populations. You keep killing carp and then you screw up the balanced ecosystem. go ahead, be a statistic. the silver jumping carp are the invasive that harm the environment.

Very good to remove grass carp from Ray Roberts. I would have preferred to do it myself, but it would have ended the same way, as TPWD rules and my direct contact with TPWD on the matter confirm that grass carp caught in Ray Roberts are to be eviscerated as an invasive. Where did they come from? In all probability, they came from a flooding event (a long time ago) that took them downstream from somewhere like Kiowa.
For you people bunching common carp, grass carp and buffalo together in the "kill em and get a medal," we assume you are either plain ignorant, or simply trying to enhance the popularity of this thread. Perhaps both are true? Regardless, it's against the law in Texas to waste our natural resources - as in bow hunt commons and dump them in the parking lot. Why don't you go hunt toy poodles instead? I'll give you a medal for that, at least it's more challenging.

Ray Bob hasn't had a stocking of grass carp by the state as far as I can remember so killing it is what is required by law.

That said this one looks to be around 30- 40lbs or so I have seen a few up there that probably go 70lbs+

The Carp weighed 74lbs on certified scales we thought we had a lake record but it was 4lbs off the record.

Was that before or after you gutted it immediately?

So the ones that jump out of the water and us bass fisherman think are bass. What type of carp are they? Why do they jump?

No truer words have ever been spoken, the TPW put way too many in Conroe, I believe the number was 50,000 , not a blade of grass in the lake.

I've been a trucker for yrs so haven't been able to fish as much as i'd like , but i'm trying to learn. My son goes with me , so that is cool,he is trying to learn also, we both want to become better fisherman.
