Howdy!

I've been reading the forums for a couple of days an thought it was time to sign up and introduce myself and see if I could get a couple of pointers.

I've lived in DFW most of my life, with some time spent in San Angelo. I've been into shooting and hunting since I was about 10 years old but have only gone fishing a handful of times and always in a stock tank or catfish farm. I'm 31 and call Grapevine my home and live pretty close to Grapevine lake. I'm posting this here as I'll be doing mostly bank fishing, I do have a boat but its not exactly working at the moment an it's a ski boat and not exactly set up for fishing.

I finally picked up my own rod and reel a few days ago and I've spent a few hours down by the Oak Grove area of Grapevine Lake. Day 1 I only had the crummy catfish bait that came with my gear, today I picked up some lures and some better catfish bait.

Any pointers for fishing this lake would be appreciated. I have almost no clue as to what tackle to use and when. I'm not picky on what fish I find as I don't plan on keeping any, just looking for a way to kill some time and relax out in nature. So far all I've caught was a leaf, it was a large leaf.

Thanks in advance, I look forward to learning what I can from those on here with much more experience than Me.

Welcome to TFF. I wish I could be more help on your questions but I've actually never fished Grapevine before so I'm going to have to defer others that have more experience on this lake.

Thank you all for the welcome.

I will say I've never been much into fishing, I guess I found it boring when I was younger, but even after just getting the rod I've been thinking about it non-stop. I was able to spend some time on Saturday down at the lake. I didn't have any luck, don't know if it was too cold or if it was the lures I was using or just a bad spot. Looking on the bright side though, I got to work on my casting, tying knots and even getting untangled smile

way to keep a positive attitude. That's the fisherman's way of thinking thumb

Hey there Budroux2w,
I would say in ANY body of water in the great state of Texas you will find channel cats. One of the easiest ways to catch them is with stink bait. Just go to a local Walmart or Academy and buy a box of stink bait. Get some treble hooks size 4-6 and some light weight. Trust me that anywhere you go, you'll have fun with stink bait because the channel cats are always after it. Sometimes you'll even get the big carp or buffalo to bite which are a lot of fun to take out. 20 lb line should be enough for this.

it is what it is
