First off. I grew up fishing bass during the peak season. Summer has always been very productive for me as well as spring. couple fish I caught last summer/fall at a private pond I have access too. my gf can catch em too. that beings said-- Been having trouble with the bite this winter. I cant say I've bass fished much during the winter but I know they are there, I can see em! My cousin lives up in Arkansas and he said hes been steadily catching decent fish (when hes not duck hunting). that being said, Any tips on the bite during winter months? Cranks or spinners? Jigs? any tips would be appreciated. thanks guys

red rattle traps really make them angry this time of year.....give it a try.
a suspending jerk bait like the rapala huskie jerk is very effective as well. (clown color)
last....if you are fishing ponds like the picture use a weightless senko....fish it as slow and you can stand.

Get you a pair of hip waders so you can get out to the edges of the shore line cover. - Fish on the warmest days in your ponds as often as you can. You want to be there when they move into the bank. - Walmart will have a inline spinner called a Mepps Black Fury in a #3 size. - Cast it parallel with the shore line; fan casting from shallow to deep. - Move forward and make another set of fan cast, over laping your cast. I use to only move forward a few feet at a time making as little noise as possible. - When the spawn takes place you should clean the ponds out. GOOD FISHING.

Thanks Donald! that helps a lot. I have had a lot of success with a Luhr Jensen spinner, but Ill have to try that mepps out. I got a couple mepps trout spinners but never caught more than a bluegill on them. I also have a canoe that can get me out deeper.

Weather is much more stable in the Summer time. Winter fishing, look for creek channels. Find the bends in the creek, look for the biggest stumps and work a jig down into the root system on the creek bank drops. Next thing is looks for rock piles, it will hold more heat.

I'm going to echo what Big Red said. Find the outside channel swings and start there. If you can find vertical breaks on outside channel bends even better. You can catch them on a variety of lures based on depth, water color, current, and available structure and cover. Just remember that you typically need to fish quite a bit slower in winter than you do in the summer in order to get bit.

slow and subtle. I would throw a weightless senko and fish it slowww. Or one Texas rigged with a light weight. Anytime I fish a Texas rig in the winter it has to be fished slow and I like a light weight. 1/8 oz tops
