Had the chance to throw a jig on a Dobyns Champion series yesterday and really liked it. Can't afford one, but might could splurge on a Savy. Will it disappoint or would I be just as pleased?

I absolutely love mine! I am trying to swap all of mine out one at a time so the wife doesn't kill me. Mysterious things keep happening to my old rods that make them unusable and thus I have replace them with a new Dobyns.

I must admit, I'm kind of a snob when it comes to my gear. I have several DX series rods and have a friend that didn't want to spend that kind of money on a rod and he bought two Savy series. I threw both of them and was EXTREMELY impressed with them. You won't be disappointed.

I'm a cheapskate most of the time. Most of my gear is old and used and some of it was my dad's from 30 years ago. But a good jig rod is indispensable if you fish a jig often, and there's no technique where rod sensitivity is more important IMHO.
That being said, I have 3 higher-end rods: a Savvy 704, Champion 703 and Champ Extreme 745. I started throwing lighter jigs on the 704, as it was my first Dobyns. It was a very nice upgrade to the Berkley Lightning rods that I had. But then I got some Tackle Warehouse gift cards for Christmas one year. I decided to put some cash with them and get the Champ Extreme 745, and it's a night and day difference. I got the Champ 703 used on the TFF after the fact, and it's a fantastic light T-rig, drop shot, and weightless worm rod.
So, my advice is this: upgrade to a Savvy series now, but get one that can do more than just drag jigs around. Enjoy your new toy and save up for a Champ or Champ Extreme down the road. Then when you get the money, upgrade and you can relegate your Savvy to other tasks.

You won't be disappointed in the Savvy Series, if your going to be flipping jigs I would get the 735. Lots of power and backbone and the sensitivity is there also. Well balanced rod, and not heavy at all.

I think you will be extremely surprised at how light and sensitive it is for the money. It is definitely a good deal.
