Saturday I had the absolute pleasure to take one of the most fishing dedicated little boys I've seen since my son Blayne (former State Jr. record holder). Kaden, age 8, joined me with his uncle David and grandpa Don for a half day trip. Focus was on catching some nice blue's that Kaden could handle. Kaden walked down with me to the boat on the dock while gramps and his uncle finished up at the parking lot and "nice center console Spud!" I replied "thanks Kaden". Kaden then proceeded to look around the boat at everything I had "UGH!! Spud, I can't cast those bait casters sir, my mom got me one for Christmas after my summer fishing camp and all I do is back lash it" Kaden said, I was amazed not just how he spoke but with proper terminology of the equipment. I told him not only will I cast them for him but will show him how to adjust the reels to help him. Then he asked about the bait, I showed him the cooler and honestly wanted to see what he said, they boy had me intrigued now! he opened the cooler and said "I knew it, big shad". I was just beside myself. We had a good day fishing, couldn't have had better weather which for most of you you know that means slower action but we found consistent fishing in 5-8 feet of water back in the stumps. Kaden was all focus all day as you will see in one of the pics below. At the end of the day Grandpa asked Kaden what he wanted to do when he got bigger. He said he wanted to be a Navy Seal.......and then a fishing guide. I smiled as I was messing around my console listening but not to be obvious. Grandpa asked, what boat will you use, kaden replied a big aluminum. What motor Kaden? He looked back and said a Yamaha. what horsepower might you use for a big boat like that grandpa asked? Kaden leaned over again and looked at the back of the boat and said 115. What fish will you guide for? Kaden said big catfish. In all my years of fishing, I don't think I have ever had a compliment has big as that one! Even though we had a good day on the water, young Kaden made it a GREAT day. Here are a few of the fish from Saturday Kadens focus.... We ended the day with a dozen fish in 5 hours, 7 fish over 15 lbs, biggest being Kaden's new personal best at 21lbs! What a great day on the water!

Great job Kaden & Spud! Glad to see you're putting the youngins on some quality fish!
I have been on a guided trip with Spud and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a good trip on any central Texas lake. He wont disappoint.
P.S. if you go on a trip with spud bring a notepad to write down everything he teaches you about catfishing because it will be too much to remember all at once.

Awesome story Spud. Maybe you can inspire many more young anglers.
