I finally decided to buy a few. My 7' medium heavy isn't getting the job done. I cant throw it more than 15 yards without getting a major birds nest. I'm using braid but think I need a broom stick to get any distance with it. Any recomendations please?

Check out the TFO Tactical series 7' 11" Mag H swimbait rod. It is rated for 1-6 oz.
It won't wear you out throwing all that weight.

Depends on what you want to spend, I use a Dobyns champ 795 swimbait rod and it will chunk it a mile.

I second the wide spool reel, I'm going to get a round reel for mine I believe because I can empty the spool on a normal sized baitcaster pretty much.

Many thanks got the tips especially the round reel suggestion. I have a few of the 5500's that I can put to use.

It's not something I use on a regular basis, I threw one this weekend on a 7 6 heavy vendetta with 65 lb braid. Worked great.

Dobyns 766 was good and could be used for heavy flip, but I now like the Mike Long Swim Bait with the long butt you can get some good leverage.

The moral of the story is you gotta have a heavy action rod. I wouldn't go shorter than 7'-6" for chunkin these beasts.
