Looking at a new aluminum rig, last one had a 115 Pro XS and didn't even consider a 4 stroke. How do the new ones compare? Power, efficiency, fuel mileage etc? The XS is juiced a little, so I would imagine it makes more power than the 115 4 strokes. While we are on that subject... 4 strokes... Rude, Yammy, Merc?

I have one of each...2005 Merc 150 Opti and a 2012 250 SHO....

I love the SHO best motor I have ever run...Faster...Better on gas..and never needs oil...

That being said my Merc has never given me a problem..fires right up and runs like a top...

Any boat I buy in the future will have a 4 stroke on it...period...I think Yammy has the market on them..
Couple of my guide buddies have over 2500 hours on their Yammy 4 stokes...

Each has it's own good qualities...

Down south the 4 stroke king is suzuki. Never had a single issue with mine. Down here with the shallow flats it dead stop to wot constantly. But I like the Yama has too. In your power range I'd say suzuki.

I've got a buddy at work with the 4-stroke 115 Yamaha on his G6 aluminum boat and he loves it.

I think Yamaha pretty much has the market on 4 stroke motors. But I doubt you'd have a problem with any of the big 3 in a 2-stroke. Evinrude is actually my favorite, followed by Merc and Yamaha, but they all make good 2-stroke outboards.

Yamaha 4 stroke for sure. Less operating cost (fuel/oil), quiet, weight the same, great low thru mid range power, super reliability.

Same here I love the sound of a two stroke plus the smell of the smoke coming off the motor. If I ever get a 4 stroke it will be a Yamaha though!

Four stroke would sink my scooter, I'll run a carb 2 stroke as long as I can find one.
