I was out the other day in my little 14ft jon and was almost swamped by someone not paying attention. I've had friends that used to carry large trables with big weights just for that reason, they would cast em to the other boat and sink it into the carpet, cut the line before they could take off. But I feel its more of the "uncommon" sense that we are looking for o the water these days. Its like people don't realize how dangerous or rude they are being, just because it water doesn't mean you can't get hurt...

Eventually, luck will change. Skills, however, can be honed, added to, and improved.

The last time I was on Tawakoni the same thing happened to us several times, I don't get up there a lot and was completely stunned at the lack of respect of fishermen on the lake. We were out in front of wolf slamming the hybrids a couple other boats came by and saw us catching fish and they pulled up but stayed a nice distance from us.
Then a guy comes driving up on plane right in the middle of us stops and throws his anchor right where we were casting.
I said "hey what the H" he just shrugged his shoulders turned his back to us and started fishing, his wife looked at us and you could tell she was embarrassed. We didn't catch another fish after that so we moved but that kinda stuff happened all day. I guess people that fish there are used to it but I haven't experienced that at the other lakes I fish.

And sometimes it only takes a split second for something really bad to happen... I remember the first time wife and I went to Twok. The professor was guiding us out of Holiday Marina in his Smokercraft away from the water hazards. He goes to haul over to the dam and I follow...well I have it in my head that he is heading straight to fish next to the dam, well he stops before that and I happened to have my head down looking at my graph, I look up and just narrowly miss him.... I was puckered up pretty good!!! bang

Im with you on that, if you gota pass me either idle by or full on plane, the plowing by is bad.

x2 in the river just stay on plane if your up when you come by, It aint gonna hurt my feelings at all.

It sure is frustrating when this happens. I have seen it many times and have read many rants on various forums. Its true that some people just aren't educated to proper boating and respecting the space of others. There are times you can ask the other boaters to give you some room and they will respond, others just don't care.

I commonly read recommendations to chunk weights towards their boats. I would not recommend this because the ones that have no common sense or just don't care may be packing. Not sure how fast that weight travels but I know a 45 slug travels much faster. Don't put yourself in this position. Not worth dying over.

How about Boat Ramp Etiquette!
Things that tick me off!

1st Loading and prepping boat on ramp instead of before the ramp, some guides or the worst because they will actually stand and rig rods on the ramp with boat instead launching boat
2nd Loading and pulling things out on ramp instead of getting off the ramp because youre backing up recovering boats in the water
3rd Hogging the loading dock!
4th turning your headlights off when your backing into the water so you do not blind people trying to back on to the ramp (running lights)
5th Stop dumping your fish scraps at the ramp

[quote=pelican]Why do they call it common sense when it's so uncommon!

Primarily because "common sense" is assumed and not correctly understood, wasnt taught in public schooling
which is the reason society has lacked the last few decades.

Good post but I'm afraid that most of the ones that need to hear this are not on this forum.

It would surprise you at/that not all TFF members are what they portray themselves as away from the forum boards.

Would agree about the guides. Some of them think they own the ramps as well as the lake - especially at Texoma.
