no idea, that's the only place I've ever seen them. I didn't even know what they were but the guy said I should try em. That was before I figured out how to catch a striper!

They're tough little boogers. I think they lived in tap water for about a month outside my shop. All except the 2 or 3 that I out on a hook that is.

No, not even close. They are sold because they are pretty big, frisky, and hardy. Shad are fragile and not easy to keep alive. They are also the number one forage fish in almost all fresh water bodies, so the predators are accustomed to feeding on them. Search dead sticking for winter striper, or follow GreaseBaths advice on the other post. Plastic fishing is cheap, easy, and fun.

I'll be heading out from Eisenhower tomorrow morning as well. I'm really new to kayak fishing so we'll see how it goes, I'll be in a sand colored wilderness ride 115, blue life jacket.
