So I bent my prop shaft ever so slightly last time I was out. I've heard you can take the bent shaft to a machine shop and get them to straighten it out if it isn't too bad. Does anyone have experience doing this in the DFW area?

Thought about just replacing it but that insurance deductible doesn't sound too appealing after Santa just drained my account.

Luckily my wife knows Im addicted to green fish b/c this pay to play thing really sux sometimes!

I just had mine straightened by a guy in TN. But I found our that Mcgills propeller in lewisville does it also for $60
The problem is you have to dissemble the gear case to remove the shaft, not an easy task if you don't know what you are doing.
What kind of motor do you have?

Call your insurance company they might take care of it verse`s paying out for a new prop shaft. Have seen it.

most prop shafts are slightly bent., there is a device that they can use to straighten them with pretty good success. It is a hydraulic contraption that hooks to the foot of the lower unit .
heres the good news though, a slightly bent prop is no big deal. if it isnt causing massive vibrations, or opening the seals and letting water get in the lower from too much wobble, you can run it.
I had an xr2 150 that was so bent it wasnt funny,. it didnt leak or let water in, and I could just barley feel the vibration.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I talked to a marine mech abt bent prop shafts a while back and he told me abt a 1/3 of the boats that comes in have slightly bent prop shafts, and most owners dont even know it. its not that critical.

Boatwhisperer fixed mine and was reasonable.
Do a search and send him a PM
My challenge was most large marine service depts do not want to risk straightening a shaft, but prefer to replace.
Straightened prop shafts can be prone to future gear case failure, so I'm told.

I have had luck bending then back as long as it smaller than a 150 I always recommend replacing if the motor is any bigger but insurance foes cover under water impacts so it's only costing your deductible to replace have not found an insurance company who will bend on back can't warranty it

Fence Builder. Gary Pender at Tracker Marine in Austin fixed my bent shaft. Gary set it up so it was done on a Saturday while I waited. Took a couple of hours. Give Gary a call he'll take great care of you. He's a great guy and a TFF brother. Tracker Marine 512-250-9000

Inspect your pro closely as well, I had a bent shaft fix then took it to the lake and it would barely get on plane without blowing out. I did not understand till I checked my prop real close and it had a bent blade. Reworked the prop and problem solved...
