I am not real hip on this stuff. I have an HDS 8 and a Nav. card. I recently updated the card for $99 and now am not sure what to do. I put the chip in and push the update button but nothing happens. In a Nav. video I noticed it says you have to put a new card in. Is that correct? And if so, do they send it to me when I update or what. I sent Corey w/Navionics a PM but he never responded. I just need to know if I wasted my money or what.

Click on the freshest data link: http://www.navionics.com/en/download-webstoreYou'll need to install the application first. Once it's on your PC, it will recognize the navionics card each time you connect it.

Well I don't know if by paying the fee if I was actually paying for an actual new card or just an update for my new card. I am now updating my existing card with the link that the previous poster posted. So now thanks to him, something is updating and before I couldn't get anything to happen. So is there something else to do?
Thanks Jeff

Thanks Jeff Did you have any problems downloading and installing the Navionics Chart installer? I got an incompatibility error message using XP.

This youtube site shows a NEW UPDATES card. I have the one that I had originally bought. The way the video shows you start out with your old card in the slot THEN you put a new card in there. I don't have a new card. Also, as it was updating I was at about 95% and then somehow my internet lost connection so I am starting all over. See yall tomorrow.

I am confused, what exactly do you have? I thought you had the Nav Updates at first?
What chip do you have exactly in your hand?
Now it sounds like you are just purchased the Freshest Data for your existing chip, so no other chip is needed other than the one you have. So if I understand you correctly you should have one year of Freshest Data subscription for your existing card. You need a good internet connection it could take awhile.

Clear your computer cache and cookies before you start the update. It will go faster if you do.

Ok, and please bear with me, I know what it's like when I see people just not "getting it" but I have one more question. Can I only view the card while it is in my unit or can I view it on my computer. I have tried to look at it from the convenience of home but when try to view it all I see is the different files I guess that make up the card? If that makes since. On the nav. sites online I see where you can go to different lakes in your region but I am not able to do that. I am sure it's my ignorance of the electronics world and not my devices. And I promise I won't add anymore question's to the matter.

Your computer does not have the software that the sonar units have to read the card. It takes a special software to read the card on your computer. NavPlannerII.
You can view ALL of the locations in the county on the Navionics Web site, by selecting Products and then Web App. The Web App is current data and is updated daily. If your waters are not shown, Navionics does not have it.
