As suggested in the ad it would not be useful for longer casts. I would prefer a strike indicator such as treated Chartreuse fluff.

rrhyne56 makes a mean furled leader. JB does, too. Maybe one of them could talk about advantages. They sure turn over nicely. Sweetness is how I would describe them.

I'll chime in here as I have some experience with them. I first learned about furled leaders over on Global Fly Fishers site and built my first jig off of plans there. Then I read Micropatterns: Tying and Fishing the Small Fly by Darrell Martin which simplified and expanded my approach.
Bottom line is, the more delicate and exact you want to be, the more furled leaders shine. if I am chucking big old lead eyed Clousers, wear-a-helmet type casting, there is no need for a furled leader. High sticking lead-laden nymphs, no real need for them. But if I want to put a little fly up under an overhanging willow tree where the chunky bluegill is lurking then a furled leader will make my passable cast more controllable and roll that baby out smooth.
My personal opinion on the leader referenced above is that it is a fine leader and will do a great job. But that job is not so much a fine cast as it is a bright orange section of leader as a strike indicator. Furling in this case is just a handy way of building the leader for the job. And again, that's not a bad thing. It's just not the zone where the leader would shine.
IMO, to see how well or not they work, get a simple little furled leader and try it casting small flies at little places.

Robin: That is the best reply about the advantages of them I have ever seen. It should be make a part of a sticky where those just starting playing with them can easily find it.
