 Key on alarm doesn't always sound off when key is turned on

I have a 225 efi mercury and when I turn the key on it doesn't always make the beep sound. What would this be?

Don't own any Merc's...But, usually on later model motors, when you turn the key on, the computer goes through a diagnostics check and beeps when the process is completed. Evidently, your diagnostics system needs to be checked.

Don't own any Merc's...But, usually on later model motors, when you turn the key on, the computer goes through a diagnostics check and beeps when the process is completed. Evidently, your diagnostics system needs to be checked. This. Most likely the horn (beep) is broken. It's a safety check that tests the beep so you know it will sound if the motor overheats.

My rude did that a while back and it was the gauge that failed and wouldn't sequence the diagnostics correctly.

Most likely the horn itself. I'm on my third one now. They are not expensive, under dash. Follow wires from ignition switch to find, just pull and replace.

I don't know what the problem is but when mine on my Evinrude quit, my son ran it out of oil and $6000 later I was back on the water. Don't ignore the problem. JMHO

i have a 99 mercury 225hp and mine did the same thing. i took it to my mechanic and he found a loose wire under the console. then when i got it back the first trip did the same thing but the locator on the console wouldn't power up. took it bank to him and turns out the key switch was bad. you need to make sure those alarms are working properly or will cost a bunch of money.
