They're all fine rods. If they feel good to you use them.

That Abu Garcia BCX will probably be a good problem child. IF you use it, I suggest ordering spare pawls and changing out the pawl often. You are also going to want to try and stick with its rated capacity. I think the rated capacity is 25lb mono. I would only use it as a back up. The pawl wears out really quickly on those reels and the level wind gets stuck. If you are in the middle of trying to fight a fish and it locks up on you, reeling down will grind up the teeth on the cog wheel and the spool pinion gear, so those will have to be replaced as well. Just wanted to give you a head's up before you start messing with that reel.

I didn't know that! I assumed the Abu Garcia name would mean a good quality product?
I don't even know what a "Pawl" is... I guess I need to find a good heavy duty bait caster to replace it with... The 80 pound test braided line is about as big around as 17# mono if I remember right...
Thanks for the heads up!

A few years ago, Pure Fishing became the parent company of Abu Garcia. As with most company mergers, the powers that be at PF wanted to combine their synergies. They had started to build a few reels at one of their plants that was NOT the Swedish Abu manufacturing plant. Abu still builds some kick butt reels, but you need to get the reels made from the Swedish plant. As far as the level wind series of reels go (round reels), stay away from the BCX, S, SX, and STX models. Keep in mind, that these reels carry the same model number as their Swedish counter parts, because the number refers to the capacity of the reel, as well as whether or not it has a thumb bar or push button release. Any of the other models of reels are great reels (C3, C4, Pro Rocket). Now, I personally have not used an S, SX, nor an STX reel, but I am aware that they are not made in Sweden, so I don't even want to risk it. You can see these reels in a plastic casing on the reel wall at Academy and some WalMart stores.
For now, it looks like you have an excellent selection of reels that will help get you through.
If you flip the reel upside down and look at the worm gear, you will see the grooves. A Pawl is a little tooth-type piece that runs through these grooves. Some pawls wear out eventually, but the pawls for the BCX reel line wear out way too often and too quickly. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info!

Yes sir. Good luck on Canyon, tomorrow.
I don't do any LMB fishing anymore, but I do have two bass reels. One is a Silver Max and the other is a Black Max. The Silver Max has the pitching/flipping switch (I can't remember the difference between the two methods). It's a pretty solid reel.

From what I can see the flipping switch is the only difference!

The Silver Max has one more bearing than the Black Max, but I had upgraded the bearings on my Black Max. They both cast fine. Not a bad set of reels for their price range.
